I Did What I Preach !

It was something else when I used to rant about the fact that entrepreneurship is the stuff of legends and that they are indeed made of something. Robert Heller, In his book “How Entrepreneurs Grow Rich By Starting Small” feels that they are the leaders in an increasingly global and capitalistic world. They are the ones who break the rules, re-write the rules, make way for more jobs, enrich not only their own lives but also shape destinies for a lot more people who come in touch with these mavericks, directly or indirectly.

Starting my own business has always been on my mind. I had always wanted to do something on my own. Something different. When I first thought about it while at school, it just seemed like the best thing to do. I did not see why I should study hard and then work for someone else. If I were that smart, I would just work for myself. However, it was easier said than done. The societal mores and the peer pressure has the power to stop you right there and these wonderful, life-changing dreams and aspirations would remain just like that, dreams and aspirations.

I was, however, as adamant as I could get. A few years of corporate bitching and then I knew that this shit-hole is not where I would want to languish. I decided to move away from the stink. I had realized, meanwhile, that I had always been good with my writing and speaking.  This becomes my staple now. I began to write and speak. I freelance. I am self-employed.

Self-employment might not have been what I had in mind when I started dreaming, but is certainly like a tester. It is simply a one-person business. I still think I am on the way to scratch my entrepreneurial dreams. I am only taking the carefully calculated, less-risky routes rather than just plunging in with my hands, feet and paychecks.
