I was one of those who had wanted to do something on my own, pretty early in life. I remember having sold WWF cards, trump cards, posters and stickers to my school mates even when I was 8 yrs old. However, I do believe that it is important for any wannabe entrepreneur to be able to live through all that shit that flies all over you when you work in a corporate environment.
It is critical because it lets you know first hand as to how your clients would be, how people work and behave when challeneged by authority ( which you will most likely be, one day!). You would know when exactly people would start defying rules, put up a resistance to managers and break peace. If you are in sales, a month or two of no business would still be fine and you would continue to get your fixed pay, while also giving you some time and insight as to why your business couldn’t come through. If you were in retail business and 2 months had to go without any business while running your own thing, it would have meant two months of absolutely no cash situation. Now, don’t you think you have something to learn before you leap like a fiery yellow flame?
I can understand how frustrating it can be for anyone who never wanted to work for anyone else to be putting up a few precious years in those damned corporate cubicles. But then, I believe we must take it as a lesson and just learn. It is an easier way to do the learning than being on your own and end up being lost, which is likely to happen, though there are instances where even this had been proved wrong.
