The decision has been taken.
Much like the mystic stories of those valiant warrior kings who had their ships burnt upon reaching the shores of the ‘Enemy Nation’ such they either ‘Win or Perish’ , I had taken the big step a few months ago. I went through the expected turbulence in my mind. The inevitable shivers, unjustified apprehensions and a roomful of doubts ( I still have them, though It is a never ending battle !)
It’s been done. It is an amazing feeling, though. The ancient ecstatic feeling of being in power. A comforting feeling that tells me that I am indeed the commander of my ship and that I hold the keys to my own success.
However, it is a path laid with little red herrings. All kinds of little tests that would test you mercilessly. Life would play with you ruthlessly. It will wait for you to give up and head for the tempting and ever-beckoning normalcy. The world of mediocre. It will make you squirm in pain. It might make you cry and sometimes celebrate in jubilation.
There will be times when I go complacent and there are times when I feel shit scared. I am sometimes so cocky and confident but perhaps that was the way it was meant to be. I did realize one thing though. I am on my own now and here is what I figured out
- No place for complacency. I work and I get paid. No more free lunches ( Not that they exist)
- It is a constant struggle, so the attitude has to be on, always !
- Sales is indeed an important skill to be picked up.
- Never take NO for an answer.
- Never Give Up.
- Never Say Never.
- Start whatever you wanted to, work at it hard enough, stay with it long enough and you will be successful enough.
- Don’t ask people for their opinions, you are better off without them.
- Just be oblivious to Other people’s opinion.
- Practice being nonchalant.
- Be patient.
- Be nice.
- Network.
Succeed !
