I am Ashwin Satyanarayana — an Internet Consultant, web specialist, social media enthusiast, traveller, and an entrepreneur. I am based in Hyderabad and I have been self-employed for the last 4 years.
I am a B.E Mech Engg graduate and an MBA from Ohio University, Athens. Ever since my MBA days, while studying, I always had the need for more money since I had an uncharacteristically high payout — for my lifestyle — for my age. I had to got to parties, get drunk, maintain a car, wear expensive clothes, buy perfumes, and hang out with pretty women and such ( all of them are expensive things to do, you know that, don’t you?)
Since I was addicted to the Internet and because my mother once told me that I write well ( I used to write long, “I am sorry” letters for all the Sh** I used to when I was a kid), I decided to go to Craigslist ( which I found using Google) and find something to work on.I found some writing gigs and tried them out. I got paid. That was awesome. I remembered this. However, I moved on with my life the way our parents want us to do — get a job, buy stuff, get married, buy stuff, raise kids, die.
My Career ( or something like that)
Driven by the sheer seductiveness of management, I started my career with ICICI Lombard and lasted there for a year. I then joined Standard Chartered Bank as a Business Development Manager and had another 2 years stint.
Rebellious, creative, and a free-spirited individual that I am, I was quickly frustrated with the appalling nature of my work. I loved sales — the job itself — but I hated the fact that incompetent morons would become my bosses yelling down at me to do work they can’t do themselves. On top of that, none of my ideas were ever appreciated, utilized, or even acknowledged. Also, working 9-5 is crap. I just didn’t like it.
Career Ends. Entrepreneurship begins.
I had enough. I was tired of the stupid routine I’d fell into — wake-up, smell coffee, get dressed, commute for an hour ( it’ll be 3-4 hrs for some of you? Good lord), work on a job I like but with people I hate, get rapped from my boss and then from clients, come back home, watch TV for an hour, eat, and sleep.
That’s the worst thing I could do to myself, I thought. I wanted to be on my own. I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I finally took the plunge and decided to do what I do best.
Talk, write, and unleash my creativity.
I started out by teaching english at local spoken english institutes. I slowly grew from there and moved into corporate training specializing in soft skills. One day, during one of my many cold calling routines on the streets of Hyderabad, I met a gentleman who’d later become a friend, mentor, and guide. While speaking to him, I realized that I barely had anything to call myself a corporate trainer.
I went ahead and got myself certified in DISC ( a psychometric instrument using for behavioral assessments) and MBTI ( a popular behavioral analysis tool). I then became a certified Behavioral Analyst.
Simultaneously, I started with freelance writing and slowly moved into online businesses of my own. I now run a web consulting company called Fetchprofits (it’s just me a few freelance professionals helping me when there are projects to be worked on). I still do some corporate training when I can, I am slowly losing Interest in it, of course.
While working with clients from all around the world, I realized that there’s a lot of money to be made online, in so many different ways that it makes my head spin sometimes.
Why Rebelpreneur?
On one hand, “make money online” niche and the “Internet Marketing” niche are highly competitive niches worldwide. The U.S — and to an extent U.K — has the maximum number of Internet users searching for these terms on Google and there are almost countless places on the Internet where information is shared about “how to make your first dollar online”. There are forums, ebooks, membership sites, e-commerce sites ( yeah, we do too, but how many, eh?).
On the other hand, virtually no website in India did that.
Probably because most Indians didn’t know about it. Those did know were busy with their own businesses. Type these keywords on Google and you’ll find websites that do the following:
- Earn Money Online
- Part time online jobs
- Typing Jobs
- Part time income
- Google Adsense Secrets
- Blah…Blah…Blah
Who has the time, and the energy, to write and dispense information for free, anyway?
I do. I don’t do this to make money ( because I earn from my own business). This blog is to educate, guide, entertain( sometimes) and teach you how to make money online.
So, I focused on what I do best. I deliver content online. I am a freelance web writer, based in India. Now, I write on this blog [ while writing for clients on various projects and on my other blog at FetchProfits]
Now, I sometimes wonder, if I can make money online, so can you. I hence started this blog with the hope that I can help some of you make money online, while being in India.
I hope I can help you. I have my number, email address, and some contact information on top of my blog and on the contact page. Talk to me if you want to.
Just don’t spend money on stupid schemes, Google CDs, and other stuff without being informed in advance.
